Each set of earrings is individual and a true original. They are designed, textured and cut in clay then glazed by hand in small batches. Once they've been glazed and fired, the ceramic earrings are then made into jewellery using silver-plated findings.

These ceramic earrings make a perfect gift, being both beautiful to look at and hold, but also showing the recipient you have selected a unique item for them that is made with care and skill by a small independent business within the UK.

Handmade Ceramic Earrings

Mass-produced ceramic items manufactured outside of the UK with which you have no guarantee as to either ethical employment practices or consideration of the environmental consequences of the production process.
Each one is individually designed, created, and sold by small female-led independent businesses.

The ceramic jewellery is made in the Midlands near Lichfield so they have a low carbon footprint. They are made in a small independent home studio pottery – Lichfield Studio Pottery and Prints (so small they don’t even have a website yet and only sell through ABP - even more exclusive!)

The jewellery is individually hand-painted with glaze using a minimum of two layers so that each one is unique and of high quality. They are fired in small batches in a home kiln using electricity from a provider that only sources from renewables. The clay is from a Stoke supplier which in turn digs up its clays from the Midlands area. The glazes are made from silica and other naturally occurring earth minerals as colourants. Ceramics can last a long time but eventually, they are broken down into particles back to the earth. The intricate patterns are made by pressing textured material into the clay.
What are they made from?

Clay – White Stoneware – sourced from the Midlands.

Glazes – Made chiefly of silica, a naturally occurring mineral and other earth minerals.

Jewellery findings (fittings) – silver plated metal.

Cord for pendants – Unwaxed hemp supplied by WoodVibrationsUK originating from etnico.co.uk. The hemp twine is 100% organic, biodegradable and eco-friendly. It is suitable for vegans.

Where do they come from?

Created and fired in a home studio in a village near Lichfield in Staffordshire.

Are they sustainable?

Fired ceramics can last a long time as they are hard and durable once exposed to high temperatures. They will eventually however turn back to dust and break down into particles back to the earth. Ceramics is environmentally friendly on many levels – it’s made from natural materials, incorporates traditional craftmanship that takes time, patience, and skill, as well as being long-lasting.

Hemp grows without the need for pesticides and replenishes soil quality. It uses far less water to grow, and it is considered better for the environment than cotton.

How about ethical?

The pendants and earrings are made from biodegradable clay, metal, and hemp and handmade in a small independent business with good employment conditions and therefore, more ethical than many mass-produced products.
